T. Harv Eker’s story is one of humble beginnings and relentless determination. He was born on 10 June 1954 in Toronto, Ontario. Son of European immigrants who arrived in North America with just thirty dollars to their name, Eker grew up in Toronto, facing constant financial struggles from a young age.
Education
Despite these challenges, Eker refused to be held back. At the tender age of thirteen, he began working, taking on various odd jobs to earn extra cash. From delivering newspapers to scooping ice cream and selling novelties at fairs to suntan lotions at the beach, Eker was willing to do whatever it took to succeed.
Other kids wanted to be baseball players, hockey players, astronauts, doctors, and lawyers, and Erke just wanted to be rich.
So he actually left school after the first year of college. Why? Because things weren’t going fast enough for him. He entered the real world and thought he would get rich within a year or two.
Early career
Didn’t happen. He spent 14 years struggling. He never expected that to happen to him. He never went bankrupt. He was never homeless. But he was pretty darn close. When you have to choose between putting fifty cents of gas in your car and eating dinner that night, it’s getting pretty close.
At one point, his fourth business in a row had gone under. He was beside himself. He was depressed. Really. He didn’t have anywhere to go for the first time in his life. You know how when you first start a business or something new, you’re so excited this will be it?
Well, it wasn’t it and it wasn’t it and it wasn’t. And pretty soon, you get hammered enough; you start losing hope? Erke thinks everybody can relate to that. He just looked up to this guy and said, spirit, God, the Universe, if somehow he’s successful, he promises to help other people.
Breakthrough success
He doesn’t know if it was that promise or what, but he changed his result. He started with a $2,000 credit card loan, and in literally two and a half years, he was a millionaire. Erke is really good at knowing what doesn’t work.
He went through 14 years of what didn’t work. And he thinks he’s pretty good at knowing the difference between what he’s doing now and who he is today. The day that really works versus what he was doing before.
